Monster's distributor, Convoy said the new product differs from other surge protectors because it offers Dual Mode Plus protection circuitry. This automatically disconnects all connected equipment if a "big one" hits. So rather than leaving equipment connected (and therefore vulnerable) after a high voltage hit, Monster's AV 800 disconnects them.

The AV 800 features a heavy-duty extra long cord and a flat plug with gold plated contacts (for maximum power transfer). A neat feature is the labelling on the power sockets - eliminating the age-old frustration of trying to find the right plug.

And for extra peace of mind, Monster is offering a Connected Equipment Warranty on the entire Monster Power Range. The warranty on the AV 800 is for $150 000.

Not a bad deal for an RRP of $149
