HDMI Extender For Easy IR Remote Control

By Branko Miletic | Thursday | 03/07/2008

Connectivity solutions provider Gefen will release in August its HDMI IR Extender. This hi-def audio/video extension system delivers 1080p full HD in the HDMI format with IR back channel control over two industry-standard CAT-5 cables.

The instant delivery of IR signals allow users to control their hi-def audio/video sources from up to 100 meters (at 1080i) or 50 meters (at 1080p) in distance. Rack mounted sources can be accessed and controlled from any room in the house or venue using this IR-enabled extension system.

The use of CAT-5 cables offers installers the option of using in-wall cabling to transmit audio and video throughout the home.

The Gefen HDMI IR Extender uses small sender and receiver units to connect local and remote devices; an IR Blaster is connected at the source. An optional RMT IR Extender at the receiving end can be used to further streamline the installation, allowing the receiver to be located out of sight.

Both sender and receiver are powered to drive long-distance performance while supporting HDCP-compliant hi-def video. The system is engineered to compensate for CAT-5 cable skews, ensuring audio and video are delivered instantly with full HD quality at the remote destination.
