Microsoft Sees Big Growth For Xbox Accessories

By Mendelson Tiu | Tuesday | 31/03/2009

While Sony has been struggling to push its gaming console to households across Australia, Microsoft has reported that it has experienced up to a 102 percent increase in accessory sales for the month of March after announcing its cash back offer.

According to Microsoft, Australian consumers responded ‘extremely well' to the cash back offer on official Xbox accessories which started on March 16th and runs until May 16th 2009.

So well, in fact, that according to the company, its Black Wireless Controller experienced 102 percent increase in sales. In addition, its quick charge kit experienced 88 percent growth, the 120GB Hard Drive experienced 82 percent growth, the racing wheel experienced 77 percent growth, the messenger kit experienced 72 percent growth, and the 60GB Live Starter Pack experienced a 48 percent increase in sales.

Xbox's Group Category Manager, Jeremy Hinton said, "Accessory sales give us insight into how consumers purchase and use their consoles. Recent sales of Xbox Hard Drives and Live Starter Packs show Aussies are spending time online with our social entertainment network and require more storage space for downloads such as games, music, demos and add-ons."

Microsoft said that last year, Australians downloaded more than 4.2 million items on Xbox LIVE.

The promotion offers up to $40 cash back on selected products. Customers will need to purchase Xbox 360 accessories between 16th March 2009 and 16th May 2009 to be eligible, and redeem the cash back by 5pm on June 30th 2009.
