  Bluetooth Tech Takes Off

By Manisha Kanetkar | Monday | 08/01/2007

Bluetooth-enable devices will hit the two-billion mark in 2010, predicts the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.

The Group reports that 2006 saw Bluetooth technology in the hands of more than one billion consumers, with the number expected to grow with new applications of the technology in 2007.

Applications we can expect to see include file transfer technology (such as the Group's TransSend application) increasingly used to send Internet content to mobile devices as well as the use of Bluetooth as a way to deliver targeted advertisements to mobile devices. New uses of Bluetooth technology in home entertainment, gaming and medical devices will also be significant in 2007, the Group says.
