  Fireplace Look-Alike Heater

By Manisha Kanetkar | Monday | 02/07/2007

The Flameglow Electric Fireplace is designed to be a cheaper and mess-free alternative to installing a full-blown fireplace or even one of the new flue-less ethanol-fuelled fireplaces currently available.

Most people would agree that there is nothing like a fireplace for creating true Winter warmth and cosiness. Of course you may live in an apartment or simply do not want to have to deal with the mess or the expense of installing one. While we recently looked at a really neat ethanol-fuelled fireplace from ecosmart which is perfect for apartments and looks fantastic, you might not have the $7500 up your sleeve to buy one.

Here's where the Flameglow comes in – priced between a much more affordable $189 and $849 range, the heaters aim to re-create the look and atmosphere of a traditional fireplace. Using a Flame Intensity Controller, you can adjust the flame from a low flickering flame to a roaring fire, the company says. And the flame effect works with or without the heater operating also.

The 2007 range offers 13 finishes to match your décor, as well as a number of styles including colonial or more modern. The heaters are portable, and this year's range also provides a choice in positioning – either flush against a wall or in a corner site via a triangular panel which comes attached to the rear of the unit.

All Flameglow Electric Fireplaces have a 2000 watt heater with an adjustable thermostat and hidden controls (to maintain the illusion of the fireplace). The exterior remains cool-to-touch as well, which may appeal to families.
