A Cooler Summer With Omega Portable Air-Con

By Mendelson Tiu | Monday | 15/10/2007

If you are renting and thinking of purchasing an air conditioner for your room, then perhaps Omega’s new range of portable air conditioners may keep you and your room cool this summer.

Portable air conditioners work the same as its built-in counterparts - they take in warm, humid air, cool and dehumidify it and then blow it back into the room. These portable models are positioned near a window in order for it to expel the hot air and moisture out of the room.

Omega's MOB14K is an air cooler and dehumidifier in one, takes less than half a square metre of floor space (dimensions are 410mmW 425mmD 820mmH), and claims to remove up to 400 cubic metres of warm or hot air and 1.5 litres of moisture from the air each hour with its impressive 14000 BTU of power. The company says that this unit can effectively cool a larger bedroom or medium-sized living room (about 18-20 square metre area).

Omega also offers a smaller portable air conditioning unit, called the MOB10K, which claims to remove up to 360 cubic metres of hot air and one litre of moisture from the air each hour, making it the perfect unit for smaller rooms.

Both portable air conditioners are thermostatically controlled and have either a 24 hour timer (MOB14K) or a 12 hour timer (MOB10K). Moreover, heavy duty casters enable the appliance to be conveniently wheeled from room to room.

Availability and Pricing

The Omega portable air conditioners carry a one year in home warranty on parts and labour and will have an RRP of $990 and $880 for the MOB14K and the MOB10K respectively.
