Save Energy With Classic Omega Ceiling Fans

By Sarah Falson | Friday | 16/11/2007

Home appliance-maker, Omega, is cashing in on the green-technology furore with two traditional ceiling fans that it says are great alternatives to energy-hungry air conditioning systems.

The humble ceiling fan is now considered a key player in the fight against energy consumption and global warning, says the company.

Omega Texas, RRP $460.
According to Omega, one of its ceiling fans on a medium setting would use approximately 27 watts of power per hour (while on low it would use about 10 watts per hour and 54 watts per hour on high), while the average reverse cycle air conditioner uses approximately 1Kw of power per hour.

The company didn't say which brand or model of reverse cycle air conditioner it used as a comparison, but concluded that when considering the fact that every kilowatt of energy used produces about 0.55kg of carbon emissions, "the true cost of air conditioning becomes clear."

Omega admits that the level of cooling offered by ceiling fans is no match for reverse cycle air conditions, however it also claims a ceiling fan can reduce the body temperature by up to 5ºC by virtue of the wind chill factor.
