Koreans Invent USB Powered Toaster Scanner

By Branko Miletic | Monday | 22/09/2008

Now here is one for all the budding engineers at Breville and Electrolux. According to TechDigest, one of the nine finalists in this year's DesignLab competition was the USB Scanner Toaster, which can "print" news, weather, and even pictures onto bread.

Developed by Sung Bae Chang of Sejong University in South Korea, according to the report, the way it works is a toaster is plugged into to a free USB port, then some bread is placed into the toaster and the software will then start burning whatever picture you choose onto the bread.

Perhaps this is the ultimate in convergence technology—everyone likes toast and of course most people have access to a computer, so the crossing of these two technologies may well be the next ‘must have' item for Christmas.
