Greenpeace Told To Nick Off By Big CE Vendors

By David Richards | Thursday | 15/01/2009

At CES 2009 we saw an explosion in new green energy efficient products however Greenpeace is claiming this is not enough they have also slammed several Companies including ASUS, Apple, Microsoft and Nintendo for failing to submit to a Greenpeace survey.

The organisation that has no regard for economics or the employment of people is now claiming that 40 and 50% energy saving by Companies like Panasonic, LG, Sony and Toshiba is only half of the problem. They say we need less PVC plastic and that manufacturers need to spend billions developing new manufacturing processes.

The environmental organisation found that fewer electronics products on the market contained harmful PVC plastic and hazardous chemicals than last year. LED displays, which save energy and avoid the use of mercury in backlights, were found to be far more common, and manufacturers were using larger quantities of recycled plastic in TVs and monitors.

Companies were also said to have established more comprehensive voluntary take-back and recycling programmes, and had adapted quickly to the new requirements of Energy Star, and other government benchmark for energy efficiency.

In Australia new guidelines and legislation is set to be introduced with several vendors now co-operating with each other to establish acceptable standards that will be accepted by State and Federal Governments.
