The Changing Face Of Custom Installation

By Sarah Falson | Tuesday | 27/11/2007

The custom installation market in Australia has evolved rapidly in the past ten years with high-quality installers such as Len Wallis Audio and Audio Connection in Sydney, along with Smarthome Solutions in Melbourne, leading the way.

With brands entering the Australian market which allow home owners to design their own audio, video, security and lighting installation – with the help of a professional installer – the custom market is fruitful right now and will continue to grow in the future, especially with the launch of new platforms like IP technology and forthcoming HDMI-network products.

But no discussion about custom installation would be complete without mentioning Audioworks in Sydney – the company, along with its parent Amber Technology, responsible for bringing us renowned brands Onkyo, Sonance and KEF.

SmartHouse News spoke with Audioworks marketing manager, David Small, to find our where his custom installation business began – and where it's heading.

Beginnings

Found ed in 1988, Audioworks began life as a specialist distributor of quality loudspeakers, electronics and accessories, including brands KEF, Meridian and Audioquest. The availability of these products morphed into a strong music system, home theatre and embryonic custom install portfolio in the mid 1990s.

Recognising the potential in good custom installation products, the Audioworks team purchased custom installation distributor, Architectural Audio Design (AAD), in 1998. AAD distributed leading custom installation brands including Sonance and Xantech.
