Sonos Shrink New Wireless Music System

By David Richards | Tuesday | 27/05/2008

Sonos is set to roll out a brand new Zone player. The device that has been under development for some time is smaller than the current model Zone player and includes a new 802.11n chipset which will deliver improved wireless range and speed.

Expected to be announced in time for the CEDIA Expo on the Gold Coast in July the new Sonos ZP120 is expected to be a big seller. According to Automated House the new amplified zone player is physically much smaller box than the original ZP100 that it will replace.

The new unit retains the analogue input but the analogue outputs have gone (the subwoofer out remains). Currently sold via specialist retailers the Sonos unit has proved very popular in Australia. According to Niv Novak of Playback Systems the Company has no plans to expand sale of the product into mass retailers.

Automated House also claim that Sonos is set to roll out the ZP80 (un-amplified Zone player) will be replaced by the "ZP90" which is pretty much physically identical but has also had the 802.11n make over on the inside.  There are no plans to update the CR100 controller they claim.
