  AMX Debuts ZigBee Range

By Manisha Kanetkar | Monday | 16/10/2006

AMX has debuted its latest range of ZigBee powered handheld MIO remote controls and ZigBee Gateway and Repeater to suit.

The company says the new remote controls bridget the gap between a "dumb" remote and a full blown AMX touchpanel. They allow full two-way communication and control over your home. The ZigBee technology allows any number of devices to communicate on a ‘mesh' network, thus eliminating problems with traditional wireless remotes, claims AMX. The top-end model (MIO-R4) also adds a touchscreen to its feature-set.

The ZigBee Gateway connects to the AMX system via Ethernet and creates a ZigBee network for a single room or area. For larger areas, you will need to add on ZigBee Repeaters.

Other additions to the AMX range include VoIP capability in certain Modero touchpanels including the MVP-8400i and NXD-700Vi. These will be the first to release in Australia, in this range. These were designed to allow for two-way, duplex audio intercom functionality in a touchpanel,  AMX says.

The products will be available in January or February next year.
