Door Communication And Entry System From AMX

By Mendelson Tiu | Thursday | 04/10/2007

AMX aims to provide an easier way of communicating with the people outside your home’s doorstep with its Metreau Entry Communicator.

This new control system product offers a Voice and Video over IP (V2IP)-enabled door communication and entry system and claims to provide doorbell functionality, along with full-duplex audio and one-way video communications, I/O's (Inputs/Outputs) for motion sensors and relays for remotely unlocking electronic, magnetic locks.

When installed at a door or gate, the Metreau Entry Communicator promises to provide notification upon guest arrival, along with one-way video and two-way audio communication via any AMX Modero Touch Panel with intercom functionality installed in the home or building. And because the entry communicator includes I/Os and relays, doors and/or gates can be remotely unlocked, while sensors can be used to automatically announce arrivals or display their image – all from the same, convenient touch panel.

The Metreau Entry Communicator is available in two versions – one with a display and one without and comes in six color options – polished brass, antique brass, stainless steel, brushed pewter, white and black. The entry communicator without a display is weather resistant, enabling outdoor installation at an entry gate or front door exposed to the rain, while the entry communicator with a display adds the ability to provide personalized greeting messages, privacy notifications and other announcements, as well as a dual-color LED light that provides notification when messages are displayed.

The company claims that its Metreau Entry Communicator is also a Power over Ethernet (PoE), IEEE 802.3af-compliant device. It is ideal for use with the new AMX PoE Injector (PS-POE-AF), a single-port, self-contained PoE power supply that delivers both DC power and data to any PoE-equipped device by "injecting" DC power through a Cat5 Ethernet cable.

AMX expects the full line of Metreau Entry Communicators, which includes the following products, to be available in Australia by February 2008.
