  Sony Launches In-Car Entertainment Range

By Manisha Kanetkar | Wednesday | 28/03/2007

Just in time for the Easter long weekend driving holidays, Sony has launched a new range of in-car entertainment gear including Bluetooth enabled head units that can play mp3s and in-car monitors to watch movies.

Up to five different phones can be linked to Sony's new head unit (MEXBT2500) thanks to Bluetooth connectivity – meaning the

unit doubles as a handsfree car kit. Plus the unit features a front auxiliary-in, so you can plug in any compatible portable music player to listen to music in mp3, wma, aac, sacd or atrac3 format. Of course, the unit can play back CDs and DVDs also. Other head units in the new range also come with a remote control.

And in order to be able to watch DVDs, Sony has also introduced new visual head units including XAVC1 and XAVW1. These feature a seven-inch screen that you install into your car's dashboard. The C1 is capable of playing back CDs, mp3s and DVDs, while the W1 can playback mp3, wma and DivX formats.

Complete with selectable rear or front subwoofer output, 3 or 7-band equaliser button

and a 24bit digital to analogue converter, Sony says its in-car range is designed to not only look good, but to sound good too.

RRP:

MEXBT2500: $449
XAVW1 & C1: $1999
