  iPod On The Road

By Caroline Warnes | Friday | 04/08/2006

Apple has confirmed that it is joining forces with some of the major vehicle makers in the US to integrate the iPod into car stereos.

The computer manufacturer made the announcement that it has teamed up with Ford, General Motors and Mazda to implement the plan, which will see these companies provide a specific iPod connection in new cars.

The announcement is good news for iPod owners in the US who like to take their music on the road. Previously, they had to buy a separate iPod adaptor for the car.

iPod integration will also alleviate safety concerns. Drivers of cars with in-built connections will be able to change songs using stereo controls, rather than reaching for the player itself in the console or the glove box.

Apple estimates that 70 percent of 2007 model US cars will offer iPod integration.
