Sony Announces Major Changes To Its AV Division

By Branko Miletic | Friday | 04/07/2008

Sony Australia has announced a structural change to its consumer AV / IT sales division to “reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering an effective and efficient model for its retail partners”, according to the company.
As of this week, the retail channel will form two distinct groups, with one group managing the centralised or head-office driven retailer channels and the other group managing proprietor driven or de-centralised retailer channels.

"During the past year, Sony Australia has undertaken the largest shopper research study carried out by an Australian consumer electronics company, which has delivered insights into how we can align our internal functions to continue to add growth and value to our retail partners," said Carl Rose, Managing Director of Sony Australia.

Rose added that, "It is out of this research that we have developed a business case for focusing our consumer AV / IT sales division into centralised and de-centralised channels.  We are confident this shift will align our account management more succinctly with our customers' buying structures and enhance the communication and planning of our business."

At the same time, Sony has also announced changes within its Car Entertainment division, with sales and marketing functions merging under the management of Abel Makhraz, who will report directly to David Hargreaves.
