An online survey of 2,010 British residents compiled by research company YouGov PLC and Garmin between 13 and 15 August this year showed almost half of all respondents couldn't name a great place to drive in Britain, the report claiming "UK roads drive motorists to despair".
"Driving in America conjures images of Route 66 and Route 1 and in Australia it's the Great Ocean Road. In Britain, we're more likely to think of the M25 and the M6. It's hardly surprising that driving in Britain is regarded as more pain than pleasure," said Garmin spokesperson, Claire Carter.
Research respondents blamed endless traffic jams (84 per cent), accidents (35 per cent), boring scenery (26 per cent) and confusing road signs (20 per cent) for the problem.
