BEST OF BEST AWARDS 2008 / APPLIANCES

We Pick The Best Appliances For 2008

By Manisha Kanetkar | Wednesday | 12/12/2007

We are excited to present to you our first ever Best Appliance awards. While the latest plasma TV may sound more exciting than the latest washing machine, no Smart House is complete without a set of slick kitchen and laundry appliances. These can save you time, space, money and even have health benefits to boot. This year, our winners have been judged by the guys that know best – retailers (Harvey Norman and Winnings) that sell many appliances everyday and know if they work well, and hear all the complaints if they don’t!

BEST OVERALL APPLIANCE

Winner:

Samsun g SRS752QDUS
www.samsung.com.au | RRP: $5,999

The ultimate addition to your slick kitchen is this four door fridge/ freezer from Samsung – and it is not merely a boy's toy. The unit has four compartments, one is a fridge and one is a freezer, while the bottom two can switch between either depending on whether you need more fridge space or more freezer space at a particular time. A very clever idea, we think. The fridge is also equipped with Samsung's Silver Nano technology to keep odours and bacteria in the fridge at bay.

Smeg CIR576X
www.omegasmeg.com.au | RRP: $1490

Gas offers the advantage of fast, strong and even heating, and this Smeg gas cooktop does all that in a stylish satin steel finish. Your stir-fries will be semi-professional thanks to the ultra rapid dual control double burner wok on this 70cm cooktop.

Highly Commended:
Miele KM 362-1G
www.miele.com.au | RRP: $999

Well Worth Buying:
Smeg PGFA95FX
www.omegasmeg.com.au | RRP: $2690

BEST ELECTRIC COOKTOP

Winner:

Miele KM 5731 induction
www.miele.com.au | RRP: $3299

Induction heating – a form of electric heating – uses electromagnetism to heat the (iron or steel) cooking pot or pan rather than heating a coil or hot plate which in turn heats the pan. And we think this Miele induction cooktop is the cream of the crop.

Highly Commended:
Electrolux EHD8690P induction
www.miele.com.au | RRP: $2329

Well Worth Buying:
Fisher & Paykel CT560X
www.fp.com.au | RRP: $939
