Samsung Premieres First 100Hz LCD TVs

By Sarah Falson | Tuesday | 08/01/2008

The first Samsung LCD TV range to offer 100Hz capability has been revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the US – joining the growing 100Hz TV market which was kicked off with the launch of Sony’s 100Hz Bravia late last year.

The new ‘F8' series of TVs incorporate 100Hz Motion Plus technology from Samsung, which provides more detail and essentially the "best technology available in a television," according to Samsung.

The 100Hz Motion Plus technology provides a more fluid picture than competing LCDs without Motion Plus technology, by doubling the number of still images shown on screen per second, says the company.

The technology also analyses each incoming frame then creates and inserts a new frame based on the movement that has occurred between these two frames.

"This extra frame results in a smooth transition between frames resulting in blur-free viewing, making it a must-have technology for watching sport and action movies," said Samsung.

According to the company's senior product manager – visual, Evan Manolis, Samsung has occupied the number-one position in the LCD TV market for the past six months, and has now ramped up competition in the US and Australia with its new 100Hz technology.
