Why Plasma Will Lose The TV War

By David Richards | Wednesday | 09/05/2007

COMMENT: What is best; LCD TV or plasma? If marketing by plasma vendors is anything to go by the war has already been won by the LCD TV vendors who week after week are pumping out LCD TV marketing at the expense of plasma.

Have you watched the telly lately or walked past a 32 sheet billboard or visited a web site like SmartHouse? If you have, chances are that you would have seen an advertisement for an LCD TV from the likes of Sony, Sharp, LG or Samsung or even Baumann Myer. But I doubt whether you have seen an advertisement for a plasma brand.
As a result the consumer now believes that an LCD TV is superior to plasma or will last longer than plasma.  The fact is that plasma is still the superior picture, that is until the next generation of LCD TVs start appearing later this year that include a new LCD colour chipset and run at 100Htz as opposed to the current 50Htz.
During the last 18 months brands like Sony, Samsung and LG have done a brilliant job of building brand awareness for not only themselves but LCD TVs in general.
