The unauthorised access was first detected by programmers in India early in February 2008.
In an email to 4Square Media the Company handling the building of a new trade site wrote "I think there is one more person, other than us, who is working on our site. He or she has made some changes on the website, in html".
Subsequent investigations have revealed that not only have unauthorized stories been posted over a period of time but bylines and dates of story postings changed. This has resulted in allegations of plagiarism by other journalists and competitors.
4Square Media management believe that the person who made these changes had access to passwords used to access the content engine and that these passwords and usernames were supplied by a person who had knowledge of how the content engine worked.
