  More Shoppers Purchasing Online

By Mendelson Tiu | Wednesday | 27/02/2008

Consumers are getting more comfortable with the idea of online shopping, as more than 86 percent of the world’s online population have used the Internet to make a purchase, according to a Nielsen Online Survey.

The most popular items purchased over the Internet in the past three months were Books (41 percent), Clothing and Accessories (36 percent), Videos/DVDs/Games (24 percent), Airline Tickets (24 percent) and Electronic Equipment (23 percent).

International President for Nielsen Online, Jonathan Carson said, "The Internet is no longer a niche technology—it is mass media and an utterly integral part of modern life. Almost no aspect of life remains untouched by online media. As our lives become more fractured and cluttered, it isn't surprising that consumers turn to the unrivalled convenience of the Internet when it comes to researching and buying products."
