But the crucial difference to sites like Ebay, according to Mechle Trading, is that the website is complemented with a physical showroom in the Sydney suburb of Chippendale where people can go and have a look at the items for sale six days a week.
Sellers can deliver their items to the showroom, and Mechle.com takes care of the listing, photography and advertising. Buyers can view and bid on the items from home or choose to inspect the desired items before bidding from the bidding stations located on the showroom floor.
The website is free join. An item is listed for 7 days or as agreed. The seller's fee is 10 percent of the hammer price, while the buyer's fee is 20 percent of the hammer price including GST. All bids start at A$50, unless the item has a reserve price.
Mechle.com founder and director Christina Leutscher has also got a selection of designer furniture, homewares and fashion labels from the likes of Arne Jacobsen, Louis Poulsen, Verner Panton, Gucci, and Prada up for sale on the site to coincide with its launch.
