  Sanyo’s Green Battery

By Caroline Warnes | Thursday | 27/07/2006

Sanyo has launched a ready-to-use rechargeable battery, dubbed the ‘eneloop’.

The launch comes as part of the manufacturer's ‘Think Gaia' campaign, which aims to encourage environmentally friendly technology.

Australians throw away 8000 tonnes of batteries each year, most of them going to landfill.

The eneloop battery can be charged up to 1000 times before it needs to be replaced, and once it is charged it maintains up to 85 percent of its energy, even after it has been stored for a year, Sanyo claims.

The eneloop is also suitable for use in digital cameras and even in extreme conditions, in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius.

More information is available at www.eneloop.com.au
