Lab-Quality Pics In Seconds From Canon

By Mike Wheeler | Tuesday | 26/08/2008

Two new photo printers are a one-stop shop for all your photographic needs, claims the manufacturer. Canon’s new SELPHY ES3 and ES30 compact photo printers print photographs in seconds, without the need for a PC.

Creative image effects include clip art, frame designs, speech bubbles and calendars. Lab-quality digital photos are made possible with the unit's dye-sublimation process and maximum resolution of 300 x 600 dpi.

The inclusion of Face Detection will help achieve perfect people shots by identifying the subject's face within the image and altering the brightness to ensure the best result. SELPHY printers also contain a Red-Eye Correction feature to produce more natural-looking images.

Photos print in approximately 55 seconds, and can be mailed as a photo postcard print or traded with friends using photo stickers and wallet-sized paper options. An easy-to-install combined paper and ink cassette allows even the youngest of family members to load, lock and print photos easily. This combined coloured ink and paper cassette features an overcoat layer that prevents fading and smudging of colours caused by ultraviolet light, gas and other environmental factors, ensuring photos can be shared with future generations. When sealed in an album, this colour quality lasts more than 100 years, claims Canon.

Both printers allow users to print directly from memory cards or mobile phones, helping to avoid spending hours loading and sorting pictures onto a computer or memory stick.
