Asia-Pac Unaffected By HP Camera Recall

By Manisha Kanetkar | Friday | 09/06/2006

HP customers in the Asia-Pacific region are not affected by the company’s firmware recall for the HP R707 camera.

SHN reported yesterday that HP has been forced to recall the software that controls the battery charging functions in its Photosmart R707 Digital Camera. This is because the camera can catch on fire when used with a non-rechargeable battery.

But according to HP Marketing Communications Manager, Jacqueline Ibrahim, customers in the Asia Pacific region (including Japan) will not be affected by the recall since the non-rechargeable battery, CP-1, is not sold in this region.

"Customers in the Asia-Pacific region will be able to continue to enjoy use of their HP R707 camera with complete peace-of-mind," she said.

However, Ibrahim did add that if customers wish to take the extra precaution, they can choose to obtain the free firmware upgrade from www.hp.com/go/ r707safetyupdate.

"As with any HP product, HP will honour all support commitments for its digital cameras, consistent with HP's warranty terms and award-winning service, including support from HP product engineers and manufacturers focused on this business," Ibrahim said.
