  Sony Unveils CompactFlash Card Range

By Manisha Kanetkar | Friday | 04/05/2007

Sony has announced it is moving away from simply offering Memory Stick and Micro Vault memory cards and entering into the CompactFlash card market.

The company says it has entered this space to provide its digital SLR camera (A100) users an alternative storage type which is faster and offers larger capacity and data recovery possibilities than Memory Stick.

"The market is demanding highspeed and larger storage sizes on portable media – perfect for being able to shoot continuously at 10.1 mega-pixel," said Sony Australia's Steven Ng.

The line-up includes CompactFlash cards in 1GB, 2Gb and 4GB capacities, with claimed transfer speeds of 66x and 133x, enabling immediate data writing from D-SLR cameras to the card, and speedy data transfer between the card and computer, Sony says.

In case photos are deleted accidentally, Sony says it has provided a support application to be able to recover the lost photos or data files.

RRP:
1GB: $44.95
2GB: $74.95 / $99.95 depending on the transfer speed
4GB: $129.95 / $159.95 depending on the transfer speed
