The new service is the first globally-supported web security service for a home game system, and is available from today in 16 languages.
Trend Micro developed the software due to rising web-browsing popularity on home gaming consoles.
"With the growing trend, users may also become more susceptible to malicious websites through the game system, or may have a chance to become the victim of cybercrime that targets monetary transactions such as shopping, banking, and securities trading through Web sites," said a representative from Trend Micro.
The software was developed as a module especially for PS3, using Trend Micro's URL filtering technology.
"A wide range of PS3? users can [now] feel safe to browse the Internet," said the company.
The service will be provided free-of-charge until the end of April next year, after which time it will be available as a paid service for an as-yet-undisclosed price.
