  Nintendo Wii, DS Clean Up

By Sarah Falson | Wednesday | 30/01/2008

GfK Australia has confirmed that Nintendo was the console winner in 2007, selling more than one million Nintendo DS units and over 300,000 Nintendo Wii units since launch, making the two consoles the fastest-selling to reach these goals in history.

The Nintendo DS reached this goal in 153 weeks while the Nintendo Wii reached its goal in 58 weeks.

Nintendo DS was the biggest selling console for 2007, selling through 509,869 units and out-pacing other handheld consoles including the Sony PlayStation Portable.

In December, 133,691 Nintendo DS units were sold.

The Wii was the second-highest selling console in December, selling 73,318 units.

Six of the titles featured in the top 10 console games for 2007 were Nintendo titles. These titles were Pokémon Diamond, Brain Training, Pokémon Pearl, More Brain Training, nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends and Super Mario Galaxy.

"We are finding that people who have not played video games before are now enjoying playing Nintendo DS and Wii, which has resulted in the sales results revealed by GfK Australia", said Nintendo Australia managing director, Rose Lappin.
