Manhunt 2 Will Not Be Released Downunder

By David Richards | Thursday | 21/06/2007

The US game Manhunt 2 will not be released in Australia after British censors banned the game, claim insiders at the Federal Government's Attorney General's Department. "We don't want to preempt the decision of the Office of Film and Literature Classification Review Board but it is looking very doubtful" they said.

The original Manhunt was released for Playstation 2 in Australia in 2003, receiving a MA15+ classification for "Medium-level animated violence". It sold 18,000 copies on PS2 and Xbox.

British censors this week banned a video game for the first time in 10 years, rejecting U.S.-published "Manhunt 2" for what they described as an unrelenting focus on sadism and brutal slaying.

The decision by the British Board of Film Classification, or BBFC, means the game, from publisher Take-Two Interactive Software, which made the controversial "Grand Theft Auto" series, cannot be legally supplied anywhere in Britain.
