Dell Adds More Grunt On XPS Desktop

By Mendelson Tiu | Tuesday | 06/05/2008

Dell has raised the performance bar yet again with the launch of the XPS 730 H2C edition, a powerful gaming desktop that can support quad-core processors, quad GPU graphics solutions and up to four hard drives.

The air-cooled XPS 730 (starting at $2,999) and XPS 730 H2C (starting at $3,730) comes with an NVIDIA nforce 790i Ultra SLI chipset with standard ATX motherboard, supports a variety of optional high performance graphics solutions, including the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 in four- way CrossFireX or NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT with SLI technology.

Dell's Head of Gaming Group, Arthur Lewis said, "There is a measure of satisfaction involved in delivering products that meet the expectations of a unique set of customers who are incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, intense and competitive. With XPS and Alienware gaming systems we've been progressively delivering an awe-inspiring experience to gamers and now, with the XPS 730, we've set the bar for a truly kick-ass gaming experience."

The optional patent-pending H2C cooling solution has also been enhanced. Originally co developed by Dell, Intel, Delphi and CoolIT, the two-stage ceramic cooling solution has been redesigned to fit an ATX motherboard. Other enhancements include:

  • Redesigned the CPU coldplate to provide more uniform cooling to all four processor cores, reducing the hottest core temperature when running at full load.
  • Added an additional coldplate to cool the chipset. Lower chipset temperature helps improve stability with frontside bus overclocking.
  • Added dynamic speed control to the pump and fans to help eliminate audible noise when the system is at idle.
  • Added a separate fan to provide assured cooling to the CPU's voltage regulator components.
