Blac Ray In Blu Ray Box Shown By Pioneer

By David Richards | Tuesday | 29/05/2007

Pioneer is banking on a high gloss black, Blu-ray player that delivers content at 24 frames per second along with high quality sound to snare a slice of the top end Blu-ray market.

At a briefing in Sydney this week Pioneer laid on an impressive display of how high end Blu-ray content should be delivered. Key to their offering is 1080p/24fps which in layman's terms delivers content from the Blu-ray player at 24 frames per second which is is the same speed that a film movie is shot at prior to being mastererd.

The BDP-LX70 which retails for $1,999 is no mid range player. It is pure top end. It also supports Dolby TrueHD and is DLNA compatible (by Ethernet), which means that content such as MPEG2, WMV9, WMA9 Pro, MP3 and JPEG files (for example) can be streamed from a home computer or server to the player. It even has gold plated audio connectors.

The BDP-LX70 also comes in a piano black glossy finish, and is constructed to perform at the high-end of the AV spectrum. It will go on sale in June.

In a demonstration alongside another manufacturers' Blu-ray players, the new Pioneer player delivered content faster and with excellent image depth and contrast.

With more studios now releasing some of the latest movie titles on Blu-ray Disc and adding interactive features not possible with DVD because of its limited space capacity, the market for high end Blu-ray players is set to take off, claim Pioneer. The new unit is also backward compatible with standard DVDs so consumers can maintain their existing DVD movie collection as they begin a new Blu-ray Disc collection.
