Sony Takes The Fat Out Of Blu-ray After Winning War

By | Wednesday | 27/02/2008

Sony has taken the fat out of two new Blu-ray Disc players to come out after the company won its format war against Toshiba’s HD DVD.

The BDP-S350 and BDP-S550 which are expected in Australia by mid year will both contain an ethernet port and allow access to BonusView, BD-Live and other advanced, interactive features.

While both slimmer and leaner than most previous Blu-ray Disc players, the new products also feature 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output, and can play most DVDs with 1080p upscaling. The BD-S550, unlike its counterpart, includes dts-HD audio and Master Audio decoding, as well as 1 GB storage capacity.

Other features will include 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema resolution output, 7.1-channel Dolby True HD and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound decoding and bit-stream output, as well as dts-HD high resolution audio and Master Audio bit-stream output.
