Sony Rolls Out Firmware Update For Blu-ray Players

By Mendelson Tiu | Monday | 07/01/2008

In order to provide a better viewing experience, Sony has announced firmware updates for its range of Blu-ray players. This new firmware update allows the Blu-ray players to be compatible with the new BD-R/RE format (BDMV) and gives enhanced Java functionality with certain BD-ROM discs.

Incorporating Blu-ray Disc Java (BD-J), users may now be able to create their own user-selected menu of bonus content and customise how they want to watch it.

Sony Australia's Assistant Product Manager of DVD/HV Displays, Andrew Smith said, "With Blu-ray, you have the ability to access menus while the movie is playing, so you can jump right to your favourite scene or view special features while the movie is playing. With five times the storage capacity of DVD, there's lots of space for extra features, all with unrivalled quality high definition picture and sound, whether it's Spider-Man 3 or your latest home movie filmed using a high definition Handycam camcorder."

Firmware updates are free for owners of a Sony BDP-S1E, BDP-S300 or BDP-S500 Blu-ray player.
