With Toshiba slashing HD DVD player prices by almost half last month, HD DVD players are definitely affordable and accessible to more consumer groups than just the ‘early adopters', however format rival Blu-ray still remains the critic's pick for market dominator with backing from some of the industry's largest content companies, including Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Add Sony Computer Entertainment to the mix, with its Blu-ray-compatible PlayStation 3 selling like hotcakes, and HD DVD is in hot water.
