The proposal was put together by an analytic company called CEnergy, and authored by Keith Jones, who has spent many years working in and consulting for the consumer electronics and technology industry.
"Let me start off by saying that reports of the death of plasma and LCD televisions are grossly exaggerated. There is no plan to phase out or ban LCD or plasma TVs," said Turnbull yesterday.
Various media reports have suggested that following a proposal that plasma and LCD TVs should be rated for their energy efficiency under the MEPS scheme which currently applies to other household appliances such as refrigerators and clothes dryers, most of the flatscreen TVs currently in circulation wouldn't even gain the lowest one-star rating.
