Denon Release Their Own iPod Hi-Fis

By Ty Pendlebury | Tuesday | 04/04/2006

Denon Electronics has announced the local availability of its S-Series home entertainment systems, the S-301 and S-101, which offer advanced MP3 integration and high definition connectability.

Denon claims the 2.1 channel home theatre systems are the world's first ever home entertainment products to offer universal connectivity with not only the iPod but also other MP3 players.

Using the specially designed front panel connector and the supplied cable to connect direct to an iPod, users can access the features and functions of any iPod with a dock connector.. The iPod menu system is also transferred through the Denon S101 & S301 and can be viewed on any monitor or television connected to the system and controlled by the Denon remote.

Designed as a total high performance home theatre entertainment solution, the new   S-Series systems are complete and compact, featuring an integrated DVD/receiver, dual satellite speakers and high performance subwoofer with stylish remote. Denon have utilised the latest in digital amplification technologies in the S-Series with the S-101 incorporating 2 x 50 watts for the satellite speakers and a 100-watt amplifier for the subwoofer. The S-301 is capable of up to 2 x 70 watts for the satellites and 1 x 140 watts for the subwoofer.

Both the S-301 (RRP $2,999) and S-101 (RRP $1,999) have been designed for total non-compromising audio and video, featuring state-of-the-art sound and image enhancing technologies. The high level of quality and reliability built into the         &n bsp; S-301/101 is no different from that of Denon's high-end components.

The S-301 features a high performance Universal Player compatibility with all disc formats including DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD (SACD). It features dual discrete Analog Devices ADV-7310 12-bit/216MHz video D/A converters, one for each of the Progressive Scan and Interlaced circuits. It also boasts Burr Brown 192kHz/24-bit audio D/A converters plus an advanced Faroudja FL12310 DCDi chipset and much more, technology normally reserved for high quality A/V components. Both units will decode Dolby Digital and DTS Surround Sound formats.

To bring out the best in image quality the S301 player features HDMI digital video output with scaling (480p, 720p, 1080i) producing the best up-conversion to HD resolution video. The S301 also supports Component and Composite video outputs together with coaxial and digital inputs, +12volts output trigger and RS232 port for third party controllers.

To achieve unprecedented surround sound from only two speakers, both models feature the critically acclaimed Dolby Virtual Speaker technology and the new dts Virtual surround technology. These two new innovative technologies ensure the integrity of the virtual 5.1 soundfield by reproducing the sonic signature, reflection tails and spectral balance via only two front speakers. In addition, the S-301 features Dolby Pro Logic II decoding that enhances playback of any program material from stereo music through to 5.1 channel surround sound.

Both the S-301 and S-101 satellites come with solid steel stands for tabletop use and both systems feature mounting brackets for easy wall mounting, as well as universal screw holes for wall-mounting brackets from other manufacturers. The compact subwoofers are finished in an attractive metallic finish with front and rear baffles and tapered edges for unobtrusive elegance, and they can be placed virtually anywhere in the room due to their 360-degree sound dispersion. The integrated DVD/receiver units are finished in contemporary metallic silver finish with easy to use front panel controls.
