The company claims its new fixed frame floating screen designs offer an ideal viewing surface – firstly because the screen is fixed in place and therefore very flat and secondly, because the hidden-frame design means the screen is able to become an architectural feature in your home.
The two new designs include the Aura and Cine-noir screens. The former incorporates a hidden, low voltage lighting strip around the entire back edge of the screen to provide a halo effect around the border. The screen is mounted 40mm off the wall on hidden brackets, so that even when viewed from the side, the lighting source is hidden, the company says. The back-lighting can also be integrated into an existing automation system. The hidden frame system which Screen Science calls ‘Zero Edge' can be colour matched to the wall colour behind the screen as well.
The Cine-noir range is also mounted 40mm off the wall but without the back lighting – the wall behind is covered with a black velour wall treatment. The screen sits in the Zero Edge frame which is coated with the same black velour treatment. This, the company says, makes the screen look like it's floating in mid air. But from a practical point, the velour also works to absorb any over-scanned image and being an open-weave material, is able to hide in-wall surround speakers.
The optical screen surfaces are available in Digital Pearl White or Digital Silver Grey. Screen Science says both optical treatments work well with the latest DLP, LCD and LCoS projector technology but also give off a soft pearlescent glow when not in use.
