  TEAC’s New Set-Top Tech

By Manisha Kanetkar | Tuesday | 28/03/2006

TEAC has introduced two new products into the set top box market in order to “Capitalise on the growing trend for digital television,” the company said.

Digital set top boxes provide consumers with the opportunity to convert their existing television without having to buy a TV with an integrated Digital Tuner.

The PVR-160T Digital Recording set top box ($599) gives viewers approximately 45 hours of digital broadcast quality recording. Other features include the ability to record closed captioning, and ‘timeshift' which allows users to pause live television.

A USB port allows PC connectivity for transfer of photos, software upgrades and MP3s.  Digital audio can be passed to a home theatre with either a coaxial or optical S/PDIF connection. The PVR-160T includes RGB SCART, component video, s-video and composite video outputs on the back.
For those who aren't looking for a digital tuner and recorder but simply looking to go digital without changing TVs, TEAC has released its HDB820 digital set top receiver for consideration.
TEAC claims this receiver is "Ideal for those who are seeking crystal clear pictures to enjoy cinema quality viewing from their present television."
The HDB820 ($499) can be used on standard 4:3 televisions and 16:9 flat panel displays. It has a DVI output and USB functionality.

Both products come with a 12 month warranty.
