  New Sony 50GB Blu-Ray Discs

By Manisha Kanetkar | Wednesday | 06/12/2006

Sony has launched a 50GB Blu-ray disc which it says will hold over 10 hours of high definition video.

There are two versions of the disc, one recordable and one rewritable. They are dual-layer discs and will hold 10 times the capacity of DVD-R, Sony says. They are also 1-2x speed compatible at 72Mbps and feature scratch guard and resistance to extreme temperatures.

"Sony is looking to lead the HD revolution in Australia and introducing this increased capacity media means greater options for our consumers. With so much capacity now available, Blu-ray is the perfect data storage solution for businesses and consumers," said Sony's Steven Ng.

The recordable disc is available now and the re-writable disc is available from January 2007.

RRP:
BNR50A 50GB Blu-ray Recordable Disc $84
NE50A Blu-ray Re-writable Disc $105
