More efficient lights like compact fluorescent lamps are already available on the market and are an easy, cleaner alternative to the traditional incandescent globe, says Garrett.
The 12-month acceleration of the ban means that imports of the old lamps will be stopped from November this year. The government has given retailers a year to sell existing supplies and replace them with the more energy-efficient variety before any sort of retail ban comes into effect.
