Netgear says the system offers enough bandwidth to support simultaneous applications such as high-definition video, Voice-over-IP (VoIP), streaming audio and online gaming.
"Our original RangeMax family of products has proven popular in Australia and around the world, becoming the top selling MIMO range globally – a trend that we believe will continue with the new RangeMax 240 line." said Ian McLean, Vice President, NETGEAR Asia-Pacific.
"Increasing convergence in the home means that people are now looking to access a wide variety of applications simultaneously, placing huge demands on their network", he said.
The new product family features a RangeMax 240 WPNT834 Wireless Router that provides a data rate of up to 240Mbps when used with the RangeMax 240 WPNT511 Wireless Notebook Adapter. This gives an effective throughput of up to 100Mbps, comparable to that of 10/100 Ethernet.
RangeMax 240 also includes technology which dynamically avoids interference from neighbouring wireless networks to maintain a reliable network.
The RangeMax 240 family includes:
· True MIMO™ Gen 3 technology from Airgo Networks which uses spatial multiplexing to stream multiple data streams over a single channel;
· A new Adaptive Channel Expansion™ (ACE™) technology for dynamically increasing performance to support bandwidth-intensive applications in a Wi-Fi friendly way;
· Automatic channel selection to provide the clearest and most available channel connections;
· Full speed hardware accelerated encryption for 128bit AES, TKIP and WEP standards;
· Quality of Service for superior video, voice and audio applications;
· SmartWizard™ Installation Assistant for simple set-up and management;
· Assisted Firmware Update for automated retrieval and installation of firmware upgrades.
The RangeMax 240 WPNT834 Wireless Router (RRP: $339) and WPNT511 Wireless Notebook Adapter (RRP: $219) are available now from NETGEAR resellers.
