Belkin Sweeps Top US Design Awards

By Branko Miletic | Tuesday | 22/07/2008

Belkin International has been recognised for its innovative and exciting product designs with two IDEA awards, by cosponsors Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and BusinessWeek, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.
Belkin was given a Silver award for RockStar, a multi-headphone splitter, and a Bronze award for TuneStudio, a 4-channel mixer for iPod, in the Computer Equipment category.

Since entering the competition in 2002, Belkin has been honoured with a total of eight IDEA Awards, with the last six awards occurring in the past five years. Belkin's award-winning design team also made the Top Corporations list of companies who have won the most awards in the past five years.

The 2008 IDEA jury, composed of 20 world-renowned designers and design thinkers, spent weeks previewing entries online and two-and-a-half days of intense, face-to-face evaluation and debate on IDEA.

The WSJ report notes that each entry was judged on the following eight areas of industrial design excellence: design innovation; benefit to the user; benefit to the client/business; benefit to society; ecological responsibility; appropriate aesthetics and appeal; usability testing; rigor and reliability (Design Research category); and internal factors and methods, implementation (Design Strategy category).
