19 Inch LCDs Now Mainly Widescreen

By Rob Gillam | Friday | 09/12/2005

4:3 computer displays are set to go the way of their analogue TV counterparts if the Taiwanese market is anything to go by.

Acer expects the 19 inch widescreen LCD segment to account for 60 percent of its shipments by year end (up from 30 percent earlier this quarter). Taiwan-based LCD vendors expect 19 inch widescreen LCD monitor shipments to increase a massive 300 percent this quarter.

The 19 inch widescreen segment is currently the mainstream mostly due to limited supply for other segments, however, BenQ expects to focus on 20-24 inch widescreen LCD monitors in 2006. It stated it will also debut an expansive 26 inch widescreen model next year.

Expect to soon see widescreen LCDs spicing up desktops as the norm in the way widescreen displays have Australian living rooms.
