By David Richards and DigiTimes | Tuesday | 22/04/2008

WiMAX is set to get a kick along in Australia with news that Acer is currently testing WiMAX-enabled notebooks and expects to launch Montevina-based products with a built-in WiMAX module in June-July of this year, according to Acer chairman JT Wang. Expected to be shown for the first time at Computex in Taiwan in June 08.

Wang revealed Acer's WiMAX notebook plans at a ceremony to mark the signing of a MOU between Intel and Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) for investment in Taiwan's WiMAX industry as well as the purchase of WiMAX equipment from Taiwan vendors.

With the full- support of the Taiwan government and the signing of the MOU with Intel, Taiwan's WiMAX industry will become one of the most prominent in the world, Wang contended according to the DigiTimes.

Wang, who also serves as chairman of the Taiwan Computer Association (TCA), played an important role in pushing Intel to sign the WiMAX MOU with the Taiwan government, according to market sources.
