With the growing popularity of low-cost notebooks and increasing adoption of LED LG Display the Korean-based manufacturer will start making 8.9-inch widescreen panels, with a resolution of 1024×600, at its 5G line in August as part of a major thrust into the low-cost PC market.

The company says it will then launch a 10.1-inch panel with a resolution of 1024×576 and an aspect ratio of 16:9 in October, and a 9.4-inch widescreen panel in April 2009, both for the low-cost notebook segment, according to the report.

LG Display is also developing LED backlighting for notebooks, the report claimed.
