Also known as Montevina, Centrino 2 is the next version of Intel's popular Centrino mobile and was previously slated for a launch in June.

Computer makers now says they are expecting to begin shipping Centrino 2 systems in July, with production reaching high volumes during the first week of August.

According to Intel, the Centrino 2 platform includes the new Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme Mobile processors, as well as an updated chipset with integrated graphics. On the wireless side, Centrino 2 offers support for Wi-Fi, and WiMax is also being offered as an option.

Intel has declined to detail what are the exact chipset issues that require the company to re-screen these products, but said the move was necessary to "insure the quality of the product".
