  Kodak Offers Cheap Photo Prints

By Mendelson Tiu | Wednesday | 08/08/2007

Why bother going to your nearest photo lab to have all your photos printed when there is an all-in-one printer that will only cost you 15.8 cents for a 4x6 photograph?

Kodak has announced its new strategy to redefine the Australian consumer inkjet market with a new printer that will change the way we look at photographs

The EasyShare 5300 All-In-One (AIO) printer represents a key strategic move by Kodak to gain a foothold in the Australia consumer inkjet sector. According to Kodak, The EasyShare 5300 AIO offers a number of innovative features that will allow consumers to save up to 50 per cent on the cost of printing documents and Kodak lab-quality photos using premium, pigment-based inks.

Kodak's Inkjet Systems Product Manager in Australia, David Santer said, "This is an extremely exciting time for Kodak as it marks our entry into a new market category. We have been in the printing business for more than 100 years. We have combined our consumer electronics expertise with our commercial inkjet printing legacy to design products for the home printing market. Our new inkjet system gives consumers the freedom to print documents and photos frequently, easily and affordably with exceptional quality that lasts a lifetime under typical home display conditions."

In an internal study by Kodak, they have found that 60% of printer owners limit their colour printing while 70% of users limit their children to use colour printing. However, an independent testing by Quality Logic, a third party that does ink cartridge yield tests, revealed that $5 on ink can produce 145 black text documents or print 32 4x6-inch photos, resulting to under 16 cents of ink for coloured photo and only 3.4 cents of ink for black and white pages.

Kodak's new AIO printer features printing, scanning and copying capabilities and includes a coloured LCD display for easy viewing and editing. The printer also comes with various memory card slots, offers Kodak's unique Kodacolor Technology, and a Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) print head. These elements combined help deliver outstanding results for general-purpose printing of text and graphics and stunning color photos that are sharp and vibrant, the company said.
