According to Blue Coat, this content filtering solution will provide users with the same Blue Coat anti-phising protection found in its enterprise-class web filtering product, warning users in real-time about new or undiscovered phishing websites.

The Internet Industry Association (IIA) has accredited Blue Coat K9 Web Protection as an IIA Family Friendly Filter, which makes this software one of the recommended filtering solutions available through Australian ISPs.

Key features:

  • Blue Coat's filtering database operates as a service. It receives and rates over 50 million requests every day, with its entire process – assessment, categorisation, blocking/warning users – completed in between 250-750 milliseconds.
  • The software uses a Dynamic Real-Time Rating (DRTR) technology that uses a method of statistical analysis and artificial intelligence to rate new or previously unrated Web pages without human intervention.
  • Parents can configure the software to block or allow specific categories such as pornography, spyware, and adult/mature content, and also block access to the web at selected times of day—after bedtime, for example.
  • K9 Web Protection can work on Windows Vista, Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating systems and on any installed browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape or Firefox).

The K9 Web Protection software is offered free to all parents at the K9 Web Protection website, which also provides materials and resources to educate Internet parents about the impact of the Internet on children and on parenting strategies.
