  WD Launches Pocket-Sized 250GB Drive

By Manisha Kanetkar | Tuesday | 17/07/2007

The new portable drives from WD offer 250GB of storage in an ultra-compact passport-sized housing.

The company says the drives are designed to be user-friendly for consumers, offering plug and play functionality. The drive is finished in piano-black, and weighs in at just over 100 grams (or 4 ounces)

Users wishing to take their desktop settings and Outlook data with them as they change computers can do so via the included WD Sync software. And if the drive is lost, the data is protected with 128-bit encryption, the company says.

The drive also includes Google Desktop Search software, for locating files, as well as Picasa for photo management.

"The rich, storage-hungry media content generated by 10 mega-pixel digital cameras and HD video camcorders makes the one-quarter terabyte WD Passport Drive a compelling solution," said WD's Jim Welsh.

"WD Passport is a travel-friendly gadget for consumers who want to carry their entire digital portfolio with them," he said.
